Un an déjà...

in the morning light, Jan passed away.  His music and compositions stay with us.  During this year through the tribute concerts, we have met a lot of musicians and friends. We were fulfilled by your music, your stories, your memories of Jan and your testimonials, here in Montreal as well as in Toronto, Boston, Lille (France) and Krakow (Poland).

There are many audio archives, scores, films, pictures. Over time, we will find the way to share them. Some projects are underway and we will update you via this website.

We are still trying to understand and live with the absence of this wonderful person.  We do receive with happiness your calls and messages; please continue to share with us your stories; we are very much touched by them.

On the third of August 2014, Jan passed away surrounded by his wife Danielle and his two daughters Corinne and Amaryllis. The memorial service was celebrated on August 15 at McGill's Birks Chapel. In Krakow, his birth place, two masses were held on August 8th and on December 28th.

Les pièces de Jan Jarczyk au programme sont: “There is always time,” “La Suite Québécoise,” “Interlude,” “Round, Round & Round,” “Remembering Seifert,” “Little Quartet,” and “Conversation Tune.”

JAN JARCZYK TRIBUTE AT JAZZ KRAKÓW FESTIVAL

After doing the International Montreal Jazz Festival on June 26 with "12 piece orchestra", another tribute will take place for pianist and composer Jan Jarczyk , on July 26, at 20th Jubilee Summer Kraków Jazz Festival (June 26–July 31) in the Auditorium of Krakow Radio, 7pm. With String Octet & Jazz Trio, Jan Jarczyk music will again sound in Poland during a special memorial concert.

This concert brings together excellent polish musicians from inside and outside Poland. Among others, it will feature, jazz pianist Wladislaw Sendecki (Polish German), and drummer Janusz Stefanski (Polish German). On strings, Polish members first chairs of the Lille Symphony Orchesra (France) will perform, as well as Jarczyk’s daughters, Corinne Raymond-Jarczyk (violin) and Amaryllis Jarczyk (cello), and colleagues and friends of all generations.

This program will include the following Jarczyk tunes: “There is always time,” “La Suite Québécoise,” “Interlude,” “Round, Round & Round,” “Remembering Seifert,” “Little Quartet,” and “Conversation Tune.”

Jarczyk’s widow, Danielle Raymond, shares the following about her husband's music :

Since his time in Boston (1980) at Berklee college, Jan wrote, carried and played everywhere else this beloved piece of music “There is always time”. Written few years later “ La suite Québécoise" relates to Québec’s [where he settled] folk music , then follow“Round, Round & Round”, then going back to Poland with “Remembering Seifert.” The “Little Quartet” recalls his classical training from when he was younger, and “Conversation tune" a perfect finale with everybody— String Octet and Jazz trio.

It is interesting to observe that some of the music that came in from Poland was played in Montreal and his last creations, the compositions from Montreal, will be performed in Kraków. We can say Round, Round & Round...

Free admission/ Hope to see you there!

***

It is with the greatest sadness that we share with you the passing of Jan Jarczyk. He died yesterday, Sunday August 3rd, 2014 after a fight with cancer which he chose to keep private. He was a wonderful husband and father to us and a great human being. For Jan, we thank you for your kind words, thoughts and music.

At the end of this month the 10th installment of the Zaduszki concert series will be taking place. How time flies! I have had the privilege of being joined by some truly exceptional talent during the past decade and am proud to say that for this special 10th anniversary performance, I will be accompanied by a great team of musicians, among some of the best that the city, and country, have to offer I'm proud to say! We will have Jacques Kuba Sequin on trumpet, Chet Doxas on tenor sax, Mario Allard (replacing Rémi) on alto sax, and along with myself there is Fraser Hollins on bass and Jim Doxas on drums, the other 2 thirds of my Full Circle trio. I have no doubt that it will be an enjoyable evening for both those on the stage as well as those in the audience. Admission is free and I encourage all those who are free that evening to join us!
